THYME (Thymus vulgaris)
You know thyme, right? It grows in a little bush in the veggie patch, it has a verydistinct smell and tastes really good on lots of food. BUT, did you know that it’s also full of crazy health benefits?
- Thyme is an incredible antimicrobial.
- Due to that action, a thyme tea can help many respiratory tract infections, like sore throat, bronchitis and laryngitis, by killing off nasty microbes.
- Thyme is also really warming, so if you’re sick with a cold thyme can help to throw off a fever and further help to kill bacteria.
- Thyme has a fairly bitter taste, meaning that it can be really good for the gut and liver function.
- Thyme also causes the smooth muscles of your intestines to relax, helping with pains associated with colic and dyspepsia.
Though it’s not quite so tasty as a tea, thyme can be boiled with some hot water and gargled to help a sore throat!
